The Emergence Of Cereals Low In Sugar And Sodas Flavored With Stevia
So now you’ve decided to work on your health by going on a diet, starting with cutting down on your consumption of sugars and grains. Don’t you feel like the whole food market is against you and doesn’t want you to be happy? Everywhere you look in the supermarket, all you see is highly processed foods that are loaded with sugars and carbohydrates, like bread and pasta. Even your favorite sauce contains a huge amount of added sugar. Even the restaurants seem to be against you, too. Quizzing the water about this or that dish hardly helps because when they are served, something’s always amiss, like a serving of fries or a greasy bread stick, perhaps. What hope is there? But I feel a change coming. Despite the slow process of change, people are slowly starting to realize things. Proof of that is the emergence of these new healthy foods that have no grain, are low in sugar and just taste so good.
1). Low Sugar Cereals. If you haven’t tried Low sugar breakfast cereals before, then you are missing out. They are made without any grains or sugar. What they have in abundance, however, are fiber from flax and almonds. Aside from that, they also have protein and good natural fats. You can have this just like normal cereal. You can simply add milk or, if you have them, almond milk or coconut milk since they are healthier choices. You can even buy that brand which has both almond milk and coconut milk together. But the cereal can be eaten without any additions, too. They are a great healthy snack to eat when you are out and about.
2). Kale chips. Looking for a sugar-free, chocolate-free and gluten-free snack that you can have fast and easy? It was only about a couple of years ago when kale chips was introduced in the market. Now they are available in stores, among the whole foods. These are basically dehydrated pieces of kale. Most of the chips are salted and have small almond chunks on them for extra flavor and texture.
3). Desserts Low in Carbs. Got a craving for low carb cakes while on a diet? Look no further! You can now buy a low carb muffin mix that has no gluten or grain content. Eggs and butter are enough additions to the mix before you can bake it. Delicious smelling muffins come out of your oven. What I love about these muffins is that they won’t make you sleepy if you eat them, because they don’t raise your blood sugar levels. That makes them a carry-anywhere type of snack. I make it a habit to prepare them in batches of 12 and store them in the fridge afterwards. When I go to work or school, I simply take one or two.
4). Stevia flavored sodas. Sucralose is an outstanding sweetener; however, like most people, I prefer a sweetener that is plant-derived and haven’t been processed too much. Stevia, a ‘natural’ sweetener, is famous for its zero-calorie content. If you’re craving soda, but can’t afford to take in the calories or the sugar, then you should try the large variety of sodas that are now flavored with stevia. Popular brands of these sodas are Zevia and Blue Sky. They can be bought from many supermarkets these days.
There are lots of other amazing products out there too, including various great-tasting low sugar jerkys and sugar-free salad dressings, but I’ll have to save those for a follow up article!
