What Can I Eat As A Low Carb Snack?
Although we want to be healthy, we are still prone to human frailty. When we are hungry and tired, it takes a gigantic amount of motivation and energy to prevent ourselves from eating that cake or that cookies. It is in those moments of weakness where I pray for sugar and carb free snacks right beside those chocolate bars and brownies. Soon I would find myself forced to stray from my diet by my hunger and all that temptation combined. It is easy to say that you can easily avoid being caught in those circumstances by keeping food on hand with you throughout the day; it is a harder thing altogether to actually keep at it.
It’s not as simple as described to carry snacks around throughout the day as a quick fix when you feel hungry. After all, most of the foods we cook wouldn’t fit into a small purse or your pocket. Also, we don’t want to have to carry a spoon or knife and fork with us to be able to eat it. There are lots and lots of great carb-less recipes out there for low carb dieters to try, but unfortunately that doesn’t translate too well into low carb snacks.
It is preferable for snacks to be ready to eat, filling and does not require much except carrying around. And of course it should also be delicious! Just because a snack is easy to carry around does not mean it is perfect, especially when the taste is not at all palatable. Now you understand why there are so few low carb snacks! It’s just so difficult to meet all those criteria.
So what low carb snacks are there? Of course, low carb snacks do exist. There’s vegetables for example. Some places even sell ready to eat celery sticks. You won’t have a hard time carrying them around. Whenever you’re hungry, you can simply bite into one. There isn’t a lot of satisfaction to be had, though, since it is not really very filling. I always want something else to eat when I have just celery sticks!
So what else is out there? Nuts are common low carb snacks. They are healthy and low in carbs. You can have your pick among the many flavors offered, even some in mixed packets. Dried fruits are also often thrown into those mixed packets. As dried fruit and nuts have become more popular so new variety packs have become available. Now you can have all sorts of exotic dried fruits and nuts, such as cashews and Brazil nuts. Manufacturers make additional efforts to make these nuts taste even better. Unfortunately, some accomplish this by increasing the sugar content, making it unhealthy instead of beneficial. Be careful when buying nuts. Check that there is no sugar added to it.
Low carb snacks are quite hard and exhausting to find. But it’s definitely worth it. It will be able to keep you in line with your diet and prevent you from cheating. Aside from keeping your energy levels high, you will also get all the nutrients your body needs.
